SciFi - Conspiracy
Absolutely Reliable
by Rodriac Copen
Gunnar lay on the bed, watching the rays of light streaming through the window. The night was dark, and through the opening, the stars seemed to flicker on and off wildly. A gentle breeze stirred the long curtain that reached almost to the floor.
Kaitlyn lay peacefully beside him. Her naked body rested against Gunnar 's torso , her right hand resting on his chest, as if trying to feel his heartbeat. The composed secretary encircled her with his arm, gently caressing the curve of her back, tracing her beautiful figure in slow, deliberate movements. His caress methodically explored every curve of her body, reaching down to her lower waist, with the secretive movements of a skilled lover seeking to touch his beloved's body in a forbidden way.
The foreign secretary breathed softly. Her face was very close to the young man's. She breathed softly and delicately on his face, and he seemed to inhale it with delight. Every now and then, Kaitlyn moved slowly, and the young man could feel the gentle caress of her breasts against his body.
The woman's bare leg slid over the young man's body. Both remained serenely calm, silently savoring the moments after lovemaking.
Gunnar was reflecting, thinking about the following morning. It hadn't been many hours since they had both arrived on a private plane for the meeting.
Among the numerous legends surrounding the activities of the Bilderberg group , the press used to attribute so many plots to it that they became countless: German reunification, the creation of the euro, the abdication of one king or another, and lately, the creation of a central world government. All the better. The best thing the media could do was fuel the legend and the paranoia.
Everyone at the annual meeting knew that numerous careers took off after each gathering, and Gunnar hoped that would be the case for Kaitlyn , his boss. As her right-hand woman, he knew a unique opportunity was brewing, and that , one way or another, their destinies were intertwined. Kaitlyn trusted Gunnar completely, and the young man knew his professional and personal future was tied to the blonde Danish foreign minister.
Unexpectedly the phone rang and Gunnar , diligent as he was in his duties, picked it up from the nightstand to verify the identity of the caller.
- “It’s Rolt, Kaitlyn, your husband,” he said as soon as he saw the number while handing her the device.
Rolt Borup was a freelance lawyer who worked for small shopkeepers in Strøget , a shopping district in Copenhagen . He had been married to Kay for over twenty years. They were the parents of Nielsine and Saffi , who were currently in their final years of university.
The foreign secretary picked up the phone and began answering calls. Gunnar tried to get out of bed and leave her alone so she could talk freely, but Kaitlyn stopped him with a gentle gesture, indicating that he should relax. She then got out of bed and walked around the room naked while talking on her cell phone.
She paced the room, taking small steps while discussing domestic matters with her husband, Rolt . As was often the case, Kaitlyn seemed exasperated for some reason. Lately, the problems in her marriage had become more than she was willing to tolerate.
She held the phone in her left hand and stared intently at the floor, adjusting her long hair. She gestured with her right hand. Every now and then, she glanced apologetically at Gunnar , who avoided her gaze to give her a modicum of privacy.
The young man watched her carefully. Kaitlyn 's long, slender legs flowed into shapely hips that hinted at her motherhood. He loved the gentle curve of her belly that blended seamlessly with her torso and the delicate shape of her breasts.
After a few minutes, the woman said goodbye, ending the call.
- “I fancy a coffee. Do you want one?” Kaitlyn asked casually.
"Of course. I'll prepare it now," said Gunnar as he stood up.
His boss and lover stopped him with a gesture.
-“Not here, dear. I'll serve you. Let me do it.”- The beautiful woman smiled sweetly.
Kaitlyn Nørgaard usually behaved very naturally in private, setting aside her political warrior persona to act simply and confidently like an ordinary woman. She didn't need titles or hierarchies to act with assurance and without hesitation. She treated everyone equally.
She was a successful civil servant with a long career in politics, but she belonged to the second tier of the Foreign Office. Just over fifty years old, her record was impeccable. A lawyer, and significantly more successful than her husband, she had worked at some of Europe's top firms, which had caused her various marital problems. Apparently, her personal success was a constant source of frustration for her husband Rolt 's gnawed ego , as he hadn't been able to advance his career in the way Kaitlyn had.
Her lover, Gunnar Holm , was about ten years younger than his boss. He was a loyal secretary who, over the years, had become her confidant. There were no political or personal secrets between them. They complemented each other and knew each other perfectly. Both committed to political activism, they had met while working together in the same political party. Their shared ideas and the young man's natural charm had connected them almost immediately. Kaitlyn Nørgaard , despite the age difference, had been irresistibly drawn to him. And without hesitation, she had offered him a position as her personal secretary as soon as she obtained her first official public post. They had become lovers almost immediately. And they were never apart again.
The relationship of mutual trust they shared was important in the current situation. The Bilderberg group did not discuss trivial matters. They did not weave macabre plots against humanity, as the press suggested. The meetings were usually attended by very few high-ranking officials, but this did not make the decisions inconsequential. No member of the group could be considered of little value.
The guests were carefully chosen because the policies agreed upon at the meetings were of fundamental importance to humanity. Although the conclusions of each meeting were secret, they charted the course for Earth for generations to come.
Those who attended the meeting, in one way or another, subsequently found a path that would lead them to presidencies, leadership positions, government posts, and even monarchies. Any position where decisions were made that would shape the political, economic, and military destiny of the entire world.
Like a well-defined chess game, Bilderberg was made up of members as old as the old MJ12 and as new as the Majority Committee . But above all the earthly members was the group of Twelve , the self-proclaimed ethicists.
The Ethics were extraterrestrial observers who monitored human evolution and, ultimately, shaped humanity's destiny. Humanity believed that governments were conspiring to create a New World Order that would govern humanity's fate. What most people didn't know was that this world government already existed, in fact, even before 1950.
Having infiltrated human society for decades, the extraterrestrials were a natural part of the economic, political, industrial, and commercial elite. They constituted the core of the Bilderberg group . But the effective government, the one that implemented all the agreements, was formed by the Twelve extraterrestrials who called themselves the Ethical Ones .
The government of the Twelve was not a secret among those who attended the annual Bilderberg meeting , although it was forbidden to talk about the subject or make it known beyond a close and select circle.
Attendance at the world summit was by invitation only, but no one knew for sure who was human and who was alien. As the days passed, and through the numerous presentations, recommendations, and speeches, it became relatively easy for the attendees to identify the extraterrestrial observers.
For this reason, at each group meeting, the faces were renewed annually, and relatively few speakers were repeated. The ethicists presented their views at the meeting and were responsible for providing guidelines and recommendations to the humans that would guarantee their evolution in certain aspects. The alien conclusions were not open to debate.
Earth , flanked by the invisible control ships that patrolled the solar system, was defenseless against the visitors who held the real power and carefully controlled human society, ready to intervene and take control in case of mass disobedience.
At the same time, agreements signed with various governments guaranteed them secret bases for the maintenance and repair of their ships and access to top-secret projects in laboratories far removed from human sight. In exchange for the cooperation of these governments, a small portion of their technology was revealed for the benefit of humankind.
Kaitlyn finished preparing the coffee and handed a steaming cup to Gunnar , while she stroked his face and sat on the edge of the bed next to the young man.
-“Is there a problem at home I can help you with?” Gunnar asked .
“Thank you, Sveske, I appreciate it, but it’s something I need to handle personally.” Kaitlyn seemed resigned. “No one can do anything for someone who has resigned themselves to failure,” she stated, ending the conversation. “Anything in particular I should remember for tomorrow?” the woman asked.
“No. I have everything under control. On the first day, we don’t expect anyone to bring up any hot topics,” Gunnar said . “With each report, you’ll receive a short summary of the key points for quick reference. Just a simple reminder,” the young man added.
“The Minister called me before we met,” Kaitlyn said . “He sounded a bit worried about a leak of information regarding a report in our area. He didn’t want to elaborate on the phone… we should look into it further. Do you know anything about it?” she asked, intrigued.
“I just found out from what you just said, Kay,” Gunnar replied , who privately usually called her by her nickname. “I have nothing. I’ll call my contacts tonight and have news for you in the morning, if there is anything to report, of course…”
"Okay, love. Do it. I don't want to leave any loose ends at this meeting. Too much is at stake."
Gunnar nodded silently. He finished his coffee and, before retiring to the other room in the suite, reminded her:
"Don't forget to call Nielsine and Saffi before you go to sleep. You promised to do so before boarding your flight here." Kay 's daughters were staying in their university apartments in Copenhagen .
“I don’t know what I would do without you, Gunnar,” the woman replied, caressing his face and kissing him goodbye. The man left the room.
Kay , as Gunnar used to call him , was part of the Foreign Office, in charge of a minor secretariat. But what people didn't know was that in political circles, the real power wasn't held by the Ministers , but by the true political operatives, who held positions often invisible to the majority.
The minister had not been invited to the Bilderberg group , but his secretary Kaitlyn Nørgaard and his assistant Gunnar Holm had .
The hotel where the couple was staying housed a large number of officials who acted as key players in the political and economic reforms of their respective countries. Many of them had bright futures ahead of them. The mere fact that they had been invited to the annual talks confirmed that at some point in their careers they would hold positions of greater power than they currently did.
Years ago, the meetings were top secret, and the inter-cooperation of the groups focused on decisions with general guidelines for industrial integration among the most important countries in the world.
But over time, the extraterrestrial observers who were infiltrated among human beings had become concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons, as well as the notable imbalance and inequality between rich and underdeveloped countries.
In the highest levels of government, no one could tell at a glance who was ethical or not. There were no procedures for detecting extraterrestrials, and physically it was impossible to distinguish them from humans.
It was suspected that the ethical beings, as the extraterrestrials called themselves, were infiltrated in all areas of human life, and had representatives in every country.
From the beginning, they identified themselves as observers of Earth's development. They monitored and reported to their respective worlds on the evolution of the human race in all aspects. They considered themselves historians and avoided interfering in matters they deemed strictly human.
But after Hiroshima and Nagasaki , the aliens' concern had led them to take a more active role in Earth's social and economic affairs. They justified their intervention by arguing the need to curb the arms race and the constant armed conflicts that, after the 1950s, had escalated to the point of jeopardizing the survival of civilization on Earth.
They had intervened during the Cuban Missile Crisis , the 1973 oil crisis, and the countless economic crises that fueled arms production for wars and guerrilla conflicts of varying scales, such as Korea , Vietnam , the Middle East , Eastern Europe , etc.
The Bilderberg meeting generated such a number of agreements, positions, and expectations that simply the exercise of political force and decision-making power by some of its members was enough to identify the humans from the extraterrestrial observers.
The Ethics, as the extraterrestrials liked to call themselves, claimed to be guiding humanity toward what they termed a " promising future ." In reality, no one was certain of anything. Many skeptics of the aliens' generosity analyzed the global situation and speculated that they might be searching for our world's natural resources or simply engaged in a grand social experiment.
Kaitlyn was skeptical about the Ethics' intentions, but she honestly believed that humans couldn't oppose the invasion, given the Visitors' resources. Gunnar thought something similar. And he considered it extremely dangerous to mount a direct opposition against the Ethics. There was compelling evidence that many opponents disappeared from the political and… earthly realm.
In the morning, Kaitlyn and Gunnar were about to go downstairs for breakfast when they received a personal visit from private secretary Piotr Borak , who personally delivered an invitation to them on behalf of the group of Twelve .
The Twelve was the most eclectic group among the ethicists. All extraterrestrials, they could be formally considered the descendants of the mythical Majestic 12 organized by Truman . They were the only ones who had been present at the meetings since time immemorial. And they had an agenda completely separate from the rest. They addressed issues considered urgent and essential. Always conciliatory between diverse viewpoints, they tried to negotiate to reach consensus rather than impose lines that could be considered " hardline " in any respect.
Piotr Borak handed Gunnar the invitation and, after greeting them politely, withdrew, informing them that a valet would escort them to the meeting room in a few minutes.
With his somber demeanor and complete lack of humor, the secretary of the Twelve rarely participated in the discussions, yet his reputation was legendary. No one knew for sure whether the thirteenth member of the Bilderberg table was ethical or even human, but his opinions were certainly feared, and his voice was always heeded. Some speculated that he was the only human among them, which was why his opinions carried so much weight.
Far from being calm, Kaitlyn maintained her composure until the Pole, as Borak was unofficially known, silently withdrew. Then she turned to Gunnar with a questioning expression. The young man replied:
– “No idea, Kay. I don’t understand the reason for this meeting. ”
The card simply read “ Day 1: Secretary Kaitlyn Nørgaard and companion Gunnar Holm. 10 am. Twelve ”
The blonde secretary Nørgaard handed the young man a necklace as she turned around so Gunnar could adjust it around her beautiful neck.
"We only have a few minutes left. We can't improvise, Gunnar," Kay said nervously .
“Whatever the problem is, we’ll be fine. We’ve studied all the information in detail,” Gunnar replied confidently.
Promptly, an escort arrived at the room to accompany them to the east wing of the hotel, to a discreet meeting room preceded by a living room, in which there were a couple of armchairs and some plants that improved the appearance of the room.
On one of the walls hung an original oil painting in vibrant colors. It depicted a location that was difficult to identify. Lush vegetation and a dim light, like that of a dying sun. Kaitlyn felt that the image depicted was otherworldly.
The escort opened the double doors to let them in. Following protocol, the Secretary stepped through the doorway into the room. Gunnar followed promptly. A group of middle-aged men and women gathered around a round table, smiling cheerfully. They were all standing in front of their seats. The seats were comfortable brown leather armchairs, numbered from one to twelve in gold. Armchair thirteen was upholstered in blue leather. There, the serious Piotr was seated .
Two white armchairs without assigned numbers awaited them. The room had large windows that offered a close-up view of a lush forest stretching down the hillside. The treetops extended far into the distance. The blue sky, dotted with numerous white clouds, presented a beautiful sight.
In the center of the table, a round platform rotated very slowly. It was actually an enormous tray holding glasses of blue and orange drinks. Some of the jugs appeared to contain tea and coffee. Scattered around were numerous plates of all kinds of snacks.
-“Welcome, Secretary Nørgaard and…Mr. Holm, right?”- The legendary Austrian Klaas Hunziker, who preceded the Twelve at the table, greeted them with a smile .
As he delivered his welcoming remarks, all heads bowed methodically in an informal but no less respectful greeting to the couple. All the members, except for Borak, were smiling.
Kaitlyn politely returned the greeting. Gunnar bowed slightly in response to the president's words.
In front of the seats were signs with numbers. Only Piotr Borak , Kaitlyn , and Gunnar had signs with their names. Number one was for Hunziker .
“We hope you will feel at ease among us, dear friends. Please allow me to call you that,” the Austrian said, indicating where the couple should sit.
Without any further ceremony, all participants sat down in their respective places.
President Hunziker gave a signal and the service staff, who had been waiting quietly and discreetly near the walls, began serving breakfast to the diners.
The initial conversation was lighthearted, touching on the trip and current international affairs. All the diners, men and women, chatted animatedly and methodically. The conversation was relaxed and informal. Some participants invited both Kaitlyn and Gunnar to share their opinions.
They seemed particularly interested when sharing their perspectives on the potential implications of the topics discussed. They talked about the financial and monetary policies of the allied blocs. They addressed issues of industrial integration and cooperation. After about an hour, the discussion began to delve into more profound topics.
The Twelve inquired about the storage of the dozens of UFOs that had crashed in various parts of the world. Piotr then took the lead in the conversation and, with a holographic map projected onto the table, provided updates on the security measures implemented to keep the recovered technology storage facilities away from the general public.
President Hunziker then began to explain the plans drawn up with the groups tasked with collecting the unidentified objects that had fallen to Earth. He carefully detailed how the cover-up apparatus operated from the moment of impact, the process of " cleaning " the site, and the roles of those responsible for silencing witnesses and misleading the press.
As the interventions of the members present continued, Gunnar began to notice that the ethicists were not only politicians, but that the group included high-ranking military officers, several agents from major spy organizations, as well as members of civil society from some countries who were not part of the political circuit, but rather of certain top-tier strategic companies.
At one point during the meeting, around noon, the topic of MK-Ultra came up . As both Kaitlyn and Gunnar overheard , the mind-control program, believed to have been defunct since the 1970s, had continued to evolve, and its decentralized development had made it more useful and successful than during the first decades of its implementation.
MK-Ultra now operated within universities, focusing on implanting ideas in the minds of top students in fields crucial to international politics. The group funded thousands of undergraduate and graduate programs in which doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and philosophers received millions of dollars in grants for targeted research.
Through hundreds of active subprograms, the Twelve controlled social networks, satellite communications, computer centers, mass media, and political parties.
According to Klaas Hunziker and Secretary Borak, the main political lines of the leading countries such as the USA , Germany , the UK , Brazil , China , and Japan were controlled from within the organizations, and the main candidates responded to alien interests.
They were discussing the China-India issue regarding the geopolitical balance of operational bases in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia when Piotr Borak kindly pointed out:
-“It is time to address the matter involving our new friends, Secretary Nørgaard and her colleague Gunnar Holm” – All eyes turned to the couple.
“As you know from our reports, there was a leak of classified information in the last few hours,” Klaas Hunziker said. A chill ran down Kaitlyn ’s spine as she wondered how on earth they could have found out before she did. Klaas seemed to read her mind.
“Our Copenhagen office, through one of our closest collaborators, has detected the arrival of secret government reports at the offices of UFO Denmark, the organization that facilitates contacts between researchers of the extraterrestrial phenomenon. I fear, my dear Kaitlyn, that your government only informed you a few hours ago without giving you any further details.”
-“That’s right… I’m literally amazed by the effectiveness of your informants.”- The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs managed to improvise while blinking a couple of times in amazement.
-“When it comes to certain issues, my dear girl, we are very efficient as you will have seen.”- A certain malice could be detected in the president's smile.
With the group's attention focused, and especially that of the two guests, Hunziker continued:
- “As you have known for some time, around the bases we have in Danish territory, various incidents have become… repetitive and unfortunately we cannot avoid them due to the impossibility of eradicating the populations near those sites.”
“This has led to the emergence of anonymous statements, which are unfortunately supported by photographic evidence. As you know, the proliferation of those damned smartphones, just as we predicted, has become a nightmare, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to suppress evidence.”
“We have tried to control the emergence of this documentation by attempting to distribute controlled cellular technology manufactured in some totalitarian regimes, such as China, which favors our interests. The Chinese government has willingly collaborated in infiltrating multiple Trojans into operating systems, but the imbalance and digital warfare between China and the West is causing many consumers to reject technology from the East.”
“As you know, we are trying to work cooperatively with a leading social media company, whose owner is enthusiastically collaborating because of the power we are giving him. And while we have managed to consolidate the three largest social networks to filter what is communicated, our collaborator's power has begun to decline rapidly due to US and European laws, which is why these alternative plans are not yet fully developed. We are considering withdrawing our funding.”
“In parallel with the control of social networks, we are trying to get another multinational to cancel the current operating system of smartphones to replace it with one that has better features for remote control, but I fear that will take some time.”
“The thing is, lately videos have surfaced, some even filmed inside fighter jets. And thousands of photographs too. We’ve had to hire trolls to keep social media under control and block posts. On the other hand, we have an army of writers posing as journalists who are tasked with ‘debunking’ the evidence.”
“The bottom line is that all the evidence that has been leaked despite our efforts has revived theories about specialized groups that go to the sites of UFO crashes. Majestic 12 has resurfaced as a code name that, according to UFO theorists and enthusiasts, is a supposed secret committee of military leaders and government officials.”
“Obviously, humans, since Roswell in '47 and thanks to our extreme pressure, deny the existence of these events. We have even managed to divide the opinions of many UFO researchers: some say the declassified documents are authentic and support the conspiracy theory. Others maintain they are fake, pointing to errors in their format and chronology.”
“We tried to destabilize public opinion by allowing the dissemination of charlatans who, since 1970, have implanted theories about the extraterrestrial origin of humanity in people. Many of you opposed fighting fire with fire, but we have been very successful: over time they have discredited themselves and the acceptance of their theories has diminished over the years.”
“But this leaked report is of the highest caliber and could cause terrible damage to our cause. It was presented to one of our emissaries who is infiltrated within UFO Denmark… and the report is real . It is digitized and consists of photographic and video evidence. Being top secret, it involves the names of our highest-ranking contacts within the Danish government. It is necessary to suppress all evidence and all those involved urgently.”
"Do we know who leaked that information?" asked diner number seven.
“Yes. His name is Rolt Borup, a small-time lawyer who stumbled upon the report by a rare stroke of luck,” Klaas replied .
Kaitlyn couldn't help but flinch. Her own husband had leaked the information. And probably from his own computer. When did he do it? Where? Gunnar tried to calm her by taking her thigh and applying gentle pressure under the table, out of everyone's sight.
Jealous of his wife's success, Rolt had fallen into a downward spiral that had been consuming him for years. Whether through bad luck, lack of skill, or sheer mediocrity, he was caught up in a mad dash for the big case that would cement his reputation as the great lawyer he aspired to be. He had already meddled in his wife's top-secret affairs on several occasions, becoming a source of problems and repeated arguments. For Kaitlyn, this latest disappointment was simply devastating. And extremely dangerous.
“Unfortunately, the report has already reached Ms. Knudsen, the director of UFO Denmark, and I fear it will be published or disseminated. Our contributor managed to obtain a copy and immediately reported the situation to headquarters,” the president explained.
-“We can operate as usual: let's eliminate this Borup guy and all his close relatives: wife, children, and everyone else who might be involved. An accident during a vacation trip is a good way to do it.”- Participant four chimed in.
Kaitlyn's throat tightened. She was witnessing her own death sentence. Did Klaas know? Did everyone know, and was this just a formality to inform her of her end? She had no way of knowing. She sweated profusely as she tried to hide it.
“Of course. On other occasions we have even shot down entire planes like Malaysian Flight 370. We can do it if that is what you decide,” Secretary Piotr Borak said coldly .
-“Another way is an accidental death during an assault.”- Eleven opined.
“The problem with the assault is that it would have to be a massacre. If we eliminate him that way, we have to make sure the whole family is involved. We tried it once with a South American politician and left a trail of corpses. It was difficult to cover up, and the agents had to erase kilos of evidence and eliminate dozens of witnesses. Very complex.” Borak seemed to vividly recall the incident.
Nørgaard remained silent, pale and terrified in what she thought would be her last moments.
“There is an alternative, Mr. President, if you’ll excuse my interruption.” Gunnar ’s words left Kaitlyn stunned . “I don’t know the protocol; I don’t know if I’m allowed to intervene,” the young Holm clarified .
“Of course, Gunnar. We’re all friends and collaborators here. And we help each other out.” Klaas said the last sentence looking directly into Kaitlyn Nørgaard ’s eyes . The woman realized how much was at stake. Hunziker clearly knew everything about her husband, Rolt . It was impossible for him not to. She was doomed . He had only been kind enough not to expose her in the group. She felt as if they were delivering her death sentence.
Gunnar presented his idea, choosing his words carefully. He knew he wouldn't have another chance to save his boss's and his own skin.
-“I understand that it can be a very effective measure to annihilate all traces.”- He carefully looked at the faces that were concentrated on what he was saying -“But that will provoke suspicions one way or another.”- He finished the thought.
-“We’ve been through that before. It’s just money and bribes.”- Piotr replied almost dismissively.
“Yes, I understand. But the report is going to circulate one way or another. A disappearance is, under the circumstances, almost a confirmation of the original news. It happened in Roswell with the initial report. They tried to cover it up, but the news circulated anyway. In this case, we can diminish the power of the news if we discredit the person who submitted the report. We must suppress the credibility of attorney Borup,” Gunnar finished .
-“Interesting position. And how do you plan to do it, young man?”- President Klaas asked .
-“We can make him have a psychotic break and commit him to a psychiatric facility indefinitely,” Gunnar said , glancing briefly at the incredulous Kaitlyn .
President Hunziker seemed to like the idea.
"And how would we achieve that?" he asked.
“We can use rifampicin in high concentrations to induce a deep confusional state. Or we can use cycloserine to induce a psychotic episode. There are other medications like omeprazole, lansoprazole, famotidine, ranitidine, and cimetidine. We have multiple options,” Gunnar finished explaining . Kaitlyn looked at him, a mixture of disbelief and hope in her eyes.
-“And how do you know that, young Gunnar? How reliable is what you say?” Piotr asked .
-“I have a degree in Pharmacology.”- Kaitlyn thought she was lucky to hire him.
“We will cause less collateral damage. We won’t need to exterminate everyone surrounding Rolt Borup. The conspiracy theory’s arguments will be dismantled. The psychosis will discredit the source and minimize the damage during the report’s dissemination. The sooner we operate, the more effective our neutralization will be.” Gunnar concluded his idea, emphasizing the word “our .”
“I like the idea. I think we’ll adopt it,” Hunziker said as Piotr Borak nodded approvingly. “Everyone in agreement? Any objections?” Klaas expected some dissenting voices, but the table of twelve unanimously approved Gunnar’s plan.
As they left the meeting, President Klaas Hunziker was effusive, giving them each a brief hug. He first greeted Kaitlyn :
“I’m glad everything worked out for the best. You have a very successful future ahead of you. It would have been a terrible loss,” he told Kaitlyn. “From now on, you’ll have to keep a close eye on those close to you. We don’t usually give second chances.” It was his final warning.
Then he turned to Gunnar :
“I liked your presentation. Very confident. With solid ideas.” He shook the young man’s hand, taking his arm in a gesture of closeness. “Everything will be resolved in a few hours. Our agents are already working to neutralize the source.” Everything will be alright.
Back in the room, in a relaxed atmosphere, Kaytlin lay naked next to Gunnar as he slept soundly after making love.
After the initial terror of facing the Twelve , Kaitlyn was overcome by a liberating euphoria. As she saw it, Gunnar had not only saved her life, but also the lives of her daughters. She would be eternally grateful.
The young man lay awake in the darkness, lost in thought. His hand rested on his beloved's bare hip when a text message arrived on his smartphone. He picked up the phone and glanced at the message. His face lit up at the screen.
The anonymous message read:
“Well played, Gunnar. Rolt will remain isolated indefinitely. Strengthen your commitment to Nørgaard and marry him soon. In four years, we'll have him in the position of Prime Minister. We need you to keep a constant eye on him. As always, destroy this message.”
Gunnar deleted the message while gazing at Kaitlyn 's beautiful curves in the moonlight .
