Cygnus Universe Saga Stories

Cygnus Universe Stories Saga
by Rodriac Copen

Chronicles of Human Expansion... and Its Oblivion.

Several of the stories you will read on this website and in my books do not exist in isolation.
They are linked by a cosmic thread, a historical and thematic continuity that spans eras of discovery, wars, impossible advances, and questions that humanity still does not know how to answer.

This narrative framework forms what I call the Cygnus Universe .

The Expansion of Man

In this era, humanity has ceased to be a planetary civilization.

Humankind has colonized several planets in the Solar System and maintains stable colonies within the Milky Way , sustained by immense spaceships for transport, exploration, and defense. These ships—veritable mobile worlds—cross inconceivable distances with trained crews who leave behind family, loved ones, and all human contact to undertake journeys that last years... or generations.

Thanks to the practical implementation of the Alcubierre Drive , humanity has begun the exploration and conquest of the Local Group of galaxies , under the control of a centralized power: the Unified Federal Government , a political, military, and police structure that imposes its presence on the known reaches of space.

Among the galaxies under human influence are:

  • Milky Way , our home
  • Canis Major (25,000 light-years)
  • SagDeg, Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Star (78,000 light-years)
  • Large Magellanic Cloud (179,000 light-years)
  • Ursa Minor (215,000 light-years)
  • Draco (270,000 light-years)
  • Carina (330,000 light-years)
  • Fornax (456,600 light-years)

And the expansion doesn't stop.

Humanity is preparing to move towards even more distant galaxies:

  • Sculptor (NGC 253) – 11,420,000 light years
  • Tucana (NGC 104) – 2,850,000 light years away
  • Sextans – 4,700,000 light years

Humanity's expansion into the universe has begun... but not all worlds tell the same story.

Why "Cygnus Universe"?

The Milky Way possesses a complex and almost symmetrical architecture : a central cluster of stars from which main, secondary, and connecting arms emerge, including the arm where our solar system is located.

One of these arms— the Norma-Cygnus arm —will be of vital importance to the destiny of humanity.

Throughout the stories, the constellation Cygnus  (the Swan) will become a recurring symbol and an essential link in the past, present, and future history of humankind. Not only as an astronomical reference, but as a narrative and conceptual axis.

Zyrbassa: the other face of the future

. Somewhere along the Norma-Cygnus arm lies Zyrbassa , a world that serves as a dark counterpoint to human expansion.

While other systems represent order, technology, and control, Zyrbassa is a decadent city-state, built upon the ruins of ancient wars where magic and science destroyed each other.

It is a hostile, underdeveloped planet, where Earth is no longer a historical memory but a myth, disputed, denied, or distorted.

Dust, ruins, half-collapsed mansions, chaotic markets, and damp taverns make up its everyday landscape.

Society lives in a grotesque carnival of ruined nobility, superstitions, conspiracies, and dangerous farces.

Zyrbassa is the setting for the adventures—sometimes humorous, sometimes unsettling—of characters like Leorin and Calyra Dastel , or for the stories of the so-called Old Future, starring Droven and Lyra .

There, everything seems like theater... but the danger is always real.

Major narrative threads of the Cygnus Universe:

The stories in this universe can be read entirely independently, but thematically they are grouped into grand epics that, together, reveal greater secrets.

  • Adventures of Brenda Ivanova
These are stories centered on the spaceship Calypso and its crew, commanded by Lieutenant Brenda Ivanova
  • Discovering the origin of humanity
Stories linked to the discovery of the extraterrestrial origin of humankind, with  Lorna Davies  as a key figure:
  • The Extraterrestrial Conspiracy on Earth
A collection of investigative and paranoid thrillers, featuring the remarkable detective duo  Steve Crettan and Sonja Holten .
  • The iconic world of Zyrbassa
The world of retrofuturism, where science has been forgotten, defective automatons exist, and shamans and witchcraft are more effective, creating an atmosphere of satire and decadent drama.

As you can see, a universe with many entry points.

It is not necessary to read the stories in a specific order.

Each story stands on its own.

However, understanding the thematic universe in which they were conceived can enrich the experience and reveal connections that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The Cygnus Universe is a narrative tool, yes… but it is also an invitation: to look at the future, its promises and its ruins, with a mixture of wonder, irony, and suspicion.

We see ourselves through the words.
