Echoes in the Void
SYNOPSIS:
During a voyage to Proxima Centauri b, the Nefertiti ship suffers critical damage, leaving its two crew members, Commander Rudolf and Lieutenant Debra , with insufficient oxygen for both of them. Seized by the fear of failure, Rudolf betrays Debra, forcibly hibernates her, and decides to stay awake, believing that this will guarantee his prestige and his arrival at the base. However, his ambition condemns him: the oxygen is not enough and he dies of suffocation. Rescued with no clear memory of the events, Debra believes that her commander sacrificed himself for her, but an investigation reveals the harsh truth: Rudolf was not a hero, but a victim of his own panic.
