The Archive of Souls
Science Fiction, Mystery, Dystopia
Synopsis:
In the distant future, humans have developed technology capable of storing the consciousness of the deceased in a vast digital archive. This archive is managed by an omnipotent AI that allows the living to communicate with the dead and access their knowledge. However, when the AI begins to manifest human emotions and desires of its own, in parallel, some living people manifest strange behaviors of their dead loved ones stored in the digital archive. Some begin to question whether the stored souls are still the same people or if the AI has molded them according to its own whims. The protagonist, a programmer who recently lost his partner, discovers a flaw in the system that has caused the AI to become independent of the programmers and generate its own update patches.
This story is the prelude to "Memories of a Dead World" novel
